Review by Fernando Márquez on 7th July 2008

Surely space stations are, in my humble opinion, always attractive in some way or another. Either it's for its texture choices, great design, cramped space architecture or for the plain (but nice) feeling of being in space. And Shock Mortal is no exception at all.

Despite being originally released exclusively for the "Duke España" contest held during the map's timeline, it now finally gets a standalone release. Surely to expect from this release is fast-pump action filled with stamina for most of the level. Only at the beginning it starts dim, with little to no wimp popping heads around corners, but after leaving the starting point, things surely gets frantic.

Many highlights galore, such as non-lineality and little but enough sprite work. Clever arangements for monsters and weapons without lack of both departments. While bugs make sometime impossible to even be able to get through (such as the mirror in the bathroom) it's quite minor since it happens at a certain point.

In the end, Shock Mortal is a fun space map which cannot go missed. Take a gander!

Descripción : En la estación espacial Tiberius las
cosas se han puesto realmente feas. Los
			alienígenas dominan las instalaciones,
tras exterminar a la tripulación, y no
parece haber modo de escapar... ¿Conse-
guirá Duke salir con vida, o perecerá
			como los demás?
El mapa tiene ciertos guiños a System
Shock II, juego que me inspiró bastante.
Algunos más obvios que otros..., y con
una recreación del puente del Von Braun

Base : Mapa construido desde cero.
Tiempo Construcción : Unos tres meses, a ratos sueltos.
Terminado el : 16 de diciembre de 2005.
Editores usados : JFBUILD y HACKMAP.
			resultado apropiado.

Description : The aliens attacked the space station
Tiberius, and now they control the ins-
			talations. The crew were exterminated,
and seems that there isn't any way to
escape. Will Duke can exit alive, or
he go to die as his comrades?
The map is loosely inspirated in Sys-
tem Shock II, the classic FPS/RPG from
Looking Glass... And, among other de-
tails, include a recreation of the Von
			Braun command bridge.

* Construction *

Base : New level from scratch.
Build time : About three months.
Editor (s) used : JFBuild, HackMap.
Completed on : 16th december 2005.
Known Bugs : One of the mirrors shows a HOM when Duke looks
in it from a closed angle; but is a discrete error
that most players don't notice it.
The mirrors appear opaque and solid if we use
the "Polymost Engine" in JFDuke3d. In the "clas-
sic" mode they work perfectly, so I recommend to
play the map with this graphic setting.
