A medium sized space station styled map. Duke starts out lightly armed and for a short while must confront small clusters of aliens with nothing more than a pistol. Gaining tactical advantage is fairly difficult because like most maps of this style it's made up of mainly corridors and small rooms so there's really nowhere to go and nowhere to hide. Although the map suffers from being severely linear, as you move through you'll notice that it has some depth from the architectural structures that can be seen through the view ports giving relief to that restricting and cramped atmosphere. While the detailing is average it's not a bad looking map. The good lighting and shading combination detracts from the redundant texturing you'd expect to find in a high tech map, giving it that "abandoned" ambiance. The objective is to escape the station via pod, but it's not as easy as it sounds. The aliens are lumped in clusters at key junctures; the weapon selection and amount of available ammunition makes these battles in the restricting corridors pretty difficult. To make the situation even harder there's barely any health to keep Duke alive afterward. Even though the map suffers linearity the layout is creative making the navigation somewhat enjoyable, just keep an eye on your health and bullet count.

====================================================================== THIS LEVEL IS NEITHER MADE BY OR SUPPORTED BY 3D REALMS. Title : FOS STATION Filename : fosstation.map Author : Supertanker E-mail : supertanker13[at]gmail.com Web Page : None as of now. Misc. Author Info : Semiveteran Duke Nukem mapper, coming out of 'retirement' after a two and a half year break. 17, too much free time. Other Levels : EDF Base, Auquabase, Artic Base, Artic Base Remake, AuqaArena Description : This map is my 'oh my god I forgot how to use Build' map. I've been slowly regaining my Build skills, and so rather than touching one of my old maps to try and finish them, I decided to make a small map to practice. FOS Station is a space station, and might be the first in a series if I stop being lazy. Additional Credits To : The betatesters: Sang, for advice on gameplay and general design. Mikko Sandt, for helping a great deal with shading and texturing, and probably played about four different versions of this map. Others: Puritain, whose "Nosotromos" map may have inspired me to begin mapping for Duke Nukem again. The AMC community for putting up with my absenses, especially during the CPB7 construction. ====================================================================== * Play Information * Episode and Level # : E1L8 Single Player : Yes DukeMatch 2-8 Player : No Cooperative 2-8 Player : No Difficulty Settings : Yes Plutonium Pak Required : No New Art : No New Music : Yes New Sound Effects : No New .CON Files : No Demos Replaced : No ===================================================================== * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Level Editor(s) Used : Mapster32 under Linux Art Editor(s) Used : Construction Time : Three weeks Known Bugs/Problems : None found yet ===================================================================== *Important Information* Installation : Important Notes : This map may be reproduced in its original format (And by 'original format' I mean 'the unmodified zipfile') in any media that now exists (the Internet, DVDs, carrier pidgeon, etched stone tablets) or will exist in the future (Infonet, IPv6 Internet, UberLazarDisk, StarFleet Databanks) as long as all files are unmodified, credit is given to the original author (Supertanker), and there is no charge or fee beyond reasonable distribution fees (The cost of a CD-R, bandwidth, packaging, or distribution media).
