A rather old level from the far and distant year of 1996, Escape From Alcatraz is a fun, nicely put together map centered in and around (surprisingly enough) an island prison.
As is to be expected it's your job to escape, which involves chasing down a few keycards, blowing things up with rotating turrets (always fun) and dodging enemy rockets. Actually I place emphasis on that last bit about the rockets because it's an essential part to finishing the level - I had to restart the level after making the error of going gung-ho on a fat commander. Apologies in advance if this completely ruins the level for you.
Map design and effects are quite reasonable for its day, with extensive use of rooms over rooms and explosive effects. Lighting isn't too shabby in some parts either. Some rooms however do feel slightly over-sized and under-detailed, which detract from the experience a little.
In all, a neat map well worth your time.

Description: An island prison. I suppose calling it Alcatraz is a little bit of a lie, for I'm sure it looks nothing like the real Alcatraz. Just pretend that the aliens have taken over the prison, sculpted it to their liking, and changed all their SFPD jackets into ones from LA. But then, I'm trying too hard. :) You'll have to get off the island completely before you can escape. Lots of explosions! I recommend putting on some SPF 100 suntan lotion before playing, or you might get burned! Oh yes, one other thing: I purposely limited you to not be able to get either explosives (RPG, devastator, and bombs) or a jetpack in this level. If you *must* use codes (cheater!), try to finish the level without using either, or you may accidentally skip large portions of the level and mess it up beyond belief. DukeMatch Level: Yes, but rather big for two players. Difficulty Settings: Not implemented * Construction * Base: New level from scratch Editor used: BUILD, of course! Build time: Over a month, with other projects Known bugs: Actually, there are a few, but I'm hoping that if I don't mention them, you won't notice them! :) Level crashes outside occasionally (due to extreme size, teaches me to build smaller levels, eh?), so save often out there. * Where to get this MAP file * Well, let's just see where it ends up, shall we? * Other * Sorry, but I'd rather if you didn't use this level as a base for your own. It's more fun to Build your own, anyways. ;) You may upload this level wherever you want, providing you spin me off a letter letting we know where it's headed. (I encourage it!) There are a few places in the level where framerate goes a little slow... sorry, but there were some things I really wanted to include. My next level will be more 486-friendly, I promise! Please let me know what you think! I'd love to hear critiques, suggestions, complaints, congratulations, or anything else you might want to say. * Gameplay Hints * -You may find your way blocked after getting the blue key. Know that a security camera will reveal the path you have to take. -There will be more than one instance where you'll have to use your enemies' own weapons against them. -Try to find all the references to the movie "The Rock"! Three in all! Send me a mail letting me know where they are and I'll send you a little something. (No, not really :) )
