Reyk's first released map, EDF Thanatos takes place on a highly offensive Terran spaceship which, unfortunately for humanity, has been commandeered by the aliens. It's your job to teach these bastards a lesson - this level will see you up against a barrage of enemies without so much as an SAS survival handbook. Level design is creative and well-conceived, there's some neat effects and explosions to be seen and a prolonged 'space-ship'-quake which adds a touch of realism to the storyline. The puzzles have been well thought out, though there's quite a few buttons to push which is sometimes a little off-putting. Fortunately, when an obscure switch is flicked, often an enemy is spawned in the general direction of where you have to go next - so as you might have guessed there's a little bit of backtracking involved. Despite this the level is great fun - download it now!

====================================================================== Title : EDF Thanatos Filename : thanatos.map Author : Reyk E-mail : hw1[at]email.com Web Page : Misc. Author Info : Other Levels : None, this is the first I have distributed. Average playing time : 15 minutes Reyk's best time : 5:31 Description : EDF Thanatos, the flagship of the Earth Defence Force has been attacked and overrun by the invaders. The ship was en route to the Moon, carrying a newly developed positron cannon, which was intended to safeguard the Lunar base. Earth High Command's scientists warn that the cannon could theoretically penetrate Earth's atmosphere and wreak massive damage on the surface. It is imperative that we prevent the aliens from firing the positron cannon, if we are to have any hope of winning this war. Unfortunately our fleet is currently stretched to its limits defending our last orbital platforms, so we cannot simply blast the ship out of the sky. The best we can do is teleport a single person aboard. That's you, Duke. You should try to knock out Thanatos's main reactor; we believe this will disrupt the invaders' defences and drain power from the positron cannon. Once you have blown the reactor, you should find the cannon and destroy it. Good luck. A note from the author: This level is difficult and, if you miss all the secrets you'll find yourself running low on ammo towards the end. Nevertheless, it is possible to win even if you miss all the secrets (and there's quite a few of them). Additional Credits To : Brett Gmoser and Jonah Bishop, without whose MAPFAQ this level would never have been made. Tim Coneen, Patola and Semicharm for figuring out various tricks I've used, and inspiring me to come up with a few of my own. And last, but not least, 3DRealms for creating the game. ====================================================================== * Play Information * Episode and Level # : E1L1 Single Player : Yes DukeMatch 2-8 Player : No Cooperative 2-8 Player : No Difficulty Settings : Not implemented Plutonium Pak Required : Yes New Art : Yes New Music : Yes New Sound Effects : No New .CON Files : No Demos Replaced : No ===================================================================== * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Level Editor(s) Used : Mapster32 Art Editor(s) Used : Editart Construction Time : About a month, all up Known Bugs/Problems : * Where to get this MAP file * File location : The Duke3D Repository: www.bur.st/~duke3d ===================================================================== *Important Information* Installation : Unzip thanatos.zip (if you're reading this you already have done that), then run thanatos.bat Important Notes : Level authors may NOT use this map as a base for creating new levels.
