Map Name: Dark Front 1: IMF Base Vengence
Author: Chris Coleman
Released: 30th May 2002
Rating: 90

Review by Kim Robinson on 3rd August 2007

This predecessor to Dark Front 2: The Shipment is done in very much the same way - great design, detailed locations, excellent shadow work - were it not for the monsters and the occasional one-liner, one could easily mistake this level for one created for a latter-engine game. Gameplay however really lets IMF Base Vengence down - the puzzles are more straightforward than a drunken kangaroo on heat and the level can be completed in five minutes (ten if you're lucky). It's good fun while it lasts, you get a healthy arsenal to dispense the alien invaders with and there's plenty of goodies stashed about the place - the level is just disappointingly short. Take a gander anyway.

Story : After just settling down after
a hard day at work Duke is about to
pop open a beer when his comm system
notifies him of a incoming message...
"Duke sorry about this, but I'm afraid
we are going to have to send you out
to a small research station out in
the middle of nowhere. We lost all
contact with it about an hour and a
half ago. We are sending you to go
check on the situation. We honestly
don't think it is anything important."
An hour later Duke is at the subway
			  service elevator into the facility.
			  After hearing the reassuring sounds
of working equipment Duke is hoping
this will be a milk run.
The doors grind open and Duke is
looking down the barrel of a 12 gauge
pointed right at his face. After
			  quickly dispatching the Pigcop Dukes
only comment is, "Damn, it isn't that
milk run I was hoping for..."
